Frida Kahlo Has Arrived In The Bronx at The New York Botanical Garden & You’re Going to Love It

Frida Kahlo has finally arrived in The Bronx.

Yesterday, we were treated to a special media preview for The New York Botanical Garden’s ‘Frida Kahlo: Art-Garden-Life’ exhibition—after 11 months of its announcement—and all that anticipation and build up was well worth the wait.

Wild Noise: The Most Extensive Visual Arts Exchange Between Cuba and The United States in Over 50 Years Coming To The Bronx Museum

Holly Block, Executive Director of The Bronx Museum, sent out a revised message this morning regarding The MAJOR art exchange between Cuba and The United States which will happen right here in The Bronx. It is the MOST extensive artistic experience of its kind between to the two countries in over 50 years and we couldn’t be happier that it’s happening right here in our own backyard.

Bronx Fashion Week To Benefit Children in Need

Hosted by La Bruja, this Saturday, May 9th, the event will include poetry readings and live entertainment. A percentage of the proceeds raised during the event will go to “Gift to Empower” a 501(c)(3)  (pending) organization which has helped over 4,000 Bronx children in need in the past 10 years, particularly those living in shelters, where they receive a backpack filled with school supplies for the new school year.

From 6PM – 9PM The Old Bronx Courthouse will finally open to the public for the next three months for No Longer Empty’s ‘When You Cut Into The Present The Future Leaks Out’ featuring the works of 27 artists scattered throughout 3 levels of this gorgeous landmark building.

Bronx Fashion Week 2015 Season Kicks Off At The Old Bronx Courthouse

BRONX, NY—March 26, 2015—Bronx Fashion Week, LLC announced today their 2nd event after last year’s successful and historic first Bronx Fashion Week in the borough’s history. This year the event will be held at the landmark Old Bronx Courthouse in Melrose on May 9th from 5:00PM – 9PM sharing space with No Longer Empty’s exhibition ‘When You Cut Into The Present, The Future Leaks Out’

CEO Flora Montes says “Bronx Fashion Week 2015 will bring forth a fashion celebration providing a platform for top designers and models showcasing collections from The Bronx and across the world.”

The event will feature a VIP Reception and pre-fashion cocktail party, product launches from diverse sponsors, as well as several performances.

Bx200 Bronx Visual Artist Directory Launch Party Tomorrow at The Bronx Museum

Join Bx200 tomorrow at The Bronx Museum of the Arts from 6pm – 9pm as they hold their official launch of their directory of Bronx artists. The evening will be a fun celebration of the Arts in The Bronx as the group will have a slideshow from our wonderful, artistic community and John “Crash” Matos of WallworksNY will be on hand as a guest speaker.

Oh and did we mention that Morris Perk will be on hand providing their amazing coffee?

Press Release: Exhibition opens at Old Bronx Borough Courthouse on April 23

New York, March 20, 2015 – No Longer Empty (NLE) is pleased to present When You Cut into the Present the Future Leaks Out at the Old Bronx Borough Courthouse. Curated by Regine Basha for NLE, the exhibition is one of seven projects to receive the Neighborhood Challenge Award. Built 1905–1914 and attributed to architects Michael John Garvin and Oscar Florianus Bluemner, the Courthouse, once boasting granite floors, lavish stairways, and bronze doors, remains adorned by a statue of Lady Justice. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Bronx County, the Beaux Arts-style building has been shuttered for 37 years.

Open Call For Artists For BxArts Factory Fundraiser at Gun Hill Brewing Co!

Since BxArts Factory announced their launch earlier this year, they have been on fire with event after event and there seems like no stopping them!

Now the group is having a fundraiser and has put out a call for artists and artwork for a fundraiser to be held at Gun Hill Brewing Co on April 17th-18th, 2015 with 40% of any sale going to the artist and 60% to benefit the BxArts Factory, a non-profit arts-based organization. It’s important to note that you can submit 2 dimensional art INCLUDING photographs as long as you follow the guidelines.

Innuendos: The Voices of 10 Bronxite Women—Tomorrow at The Andrew Freedman Home (Along With Another Art Show Opening!)

Tomorrow, Friday, March 6 from 5:30PM – 9:30PM, you’ll get TWO art openings under one roof as the BxArts Factory launches their first exhibition called ‘Innuendos: The Voices of 10 Bronxite Women’, and the Andrew Freedman Home Artists in Residence II Annual Art Exhibition featuring 15 artists and their works.

The New York Armory Show Comes to Our Borough at The Bronx Museum for Bronx Speaks: Making Place

One of New York City’s premier art shows, The New York Armory Show, will be having a Bronx Day in conjunction with The Bronx Arts Alliance at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4th from 4PM – 8PM you can view this 4 day exhibition covering a wide variety of mediums and disciplines as well as programming for all ages.

When we found out last June that an exhibition on Frida Kahlo was coming to The New York Botanical Garden, May 16th, 2015 couldn’t get here fast enough. Now, we’re just a little over 2 months away from opening weekend and thanks to NYBG, we’re happy to share more about this event.

After reading the calendar of events, Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life is massive with its programming surrounding the actual exhibition which includes over a dozen of her works, many of which are from private collections, live music and dancing giving us a colorful range of the performing arts, family events and so much more! We’ve put it all together here so that you can plan in advance for these events (especially for those who are traveling into NYC just to experience the exhibition and The Bronx!)
