A night of three choreographers offering a dance, a ritual, an action on living. Brittany Williams, Samantha Speis, and Esther Baker-Tarpaga share solo work at BAAD!
Brittany Williams originally from “Exit 1,” Florida City, Florida -southernly located on the outskirts of Miami, is 2016 Jacob’s Pillow Scholarship recipient for the Program, Dance & Improv Traditions. She is currently a Choreoquest Artist in Residence at Restoration Plaza. She is a Dancing While Black 2017 Fello. Williams has worked with Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, Yon Tande, Makeda Thomas, Chris Walker and more. Her work has been shown in Miami, New York City, Chicago, Trinidad, Brazil and Haiti. She is a principal dancer with Olujimi Dance, the founder of Dancing for Justice and Obika Dance Projects. She danced with Forces of Nature, InSPIRIT Dance Company, ” Lost in Language and Sound,” with choreographer Dyane McIntyre. She is currently working with Slippage| Culture | Technology at Duke University, founder Thomas DeFrantz. She is honored to be a BAX Fall Space Grantee! She is currently working as an organizer with the#CLOSErikers campaign.
Esther Baker-Tarpaga is a performance artist and choreographer. She co-directs Baker & Tarpaga Project, a transnational performance project based in Burkina Faso and Philly. She is currently working on a multi-year collaboration with performance artists in Tijuana, Mexico. She recently performed at Bali Spirit Festival, InOut Festival Burkina Faso, CECUT Tijuana, LabBodies Baltimore, Panapoly NY, Rosekill Farm NY, and Kelly Strayhorn Theatre. She toured with David Rousseve/REALITY, is a performance associate of Guillermo Gomez-Pena/La Pocha Nostra, and is part of the International Interdisciplinary Artist Consortium. She was faculty at UArts, OSU, a Grant Wood Fellow at UIowa, and AIR Marin Headlands.
