Parranda in The Bronx! Puerto Rican Style Christmas Caroling in Melrose

Join the Bronx Music Heritage Center for the first ever Parranda, the traditional fun-filled Puerto Rican way of celebrating the holidays in this inaugural event that will take on a different theme each year!

The event is scheduled for Monday, December 21st and kicks off at the Bronx Documentary Center at 4pm.

If you’ve never been to a parranda or know what it is, it’s basically Christmas caroling on steroids with traditional Puerto Rican instruments and the crowd grows as it goes from place to place, picking folks up along the way.

The BDC responds to criticism of Chris Arnade’s inclusion in Altered Images exhibition

The following is syndicated via The Bronx Documentary Center in response to criticism of Chris Arnade’s inclusion in their most recent exhibition, Altered Images, which explores 150 years of photographic manipulation whether by altering physical images themselves or setting up the scenes and passing it off as documentary journalism.

The images below may be disturbing and offensive to many. In fact, many people in The Bronx are offended at Arnade’s portrayal and exploitation of vulnerable women in Hunts Point and the depiction of a neighborhood that has already suffered from exploitation and outsiders controlling the narrative which is often not based on reality but often on fetishism.

Bronx Artist Christopher Estrada Launches First Single & Music Video; Also Set To Star In A Bronx-Based Film

26 year old Bronx born and raised music artist, actor and Cardinal Hayes graduate, Christopher Estrada, is definitely starting off the year right and hit the ground running. Today he released his first single and music video and in early February will begin production on ‘Heartland’, an independent film written by Bronxite Orlando Reyes.

It’s a time honored tradition in New York City: The Battle of the Best Pizzas in Town which every publication puts out at least once a year. Gothamist just put out the 24 best pizza places in NYC and ONLY 2 Bronx shops made the cut? They also had the audacity to say anyone who disagrees with this list is wrong. Clearly they haven’t traveled far and wide and did their homework like Chris Crowley did earlier this year.

Van Nest residents are fed up with a wave of graffiti tagging that has been ‘plaguing’ the neighborhood since the neighborhood is no longer represented by Senator Klein who had a graffiti removal program. The area is now represented by Senator Gustavo who doesn’t have a plan in place for such issues.
The New York Times reports that JLo’s homecoming to The Bronx was long overdue according to fans (including Welcome2TheBronx who was interviewed for this article on Jennifer Lopez and her return).
