About

Welcome2TheBronx was founded in September 2009 by Editor and Senior Writer Ed Garcia Conde as a response to the decades of negative stories in the mainstream media about The Bronx and to combat decades-old stereotypes about the borough.

Since then, we have been providing you with the news about The Bronx, from arts and culture, to affordable housing, gentrification, and feel good stories about the people who call the borough home.

Welcome2TheBronx is an award-winning news site and in 2015 we were recognized by the New York City Historic District Council with the Friend from the Media award due to our journalistic work on reporting about the landmarks, both official and unofficial, of the borough.

In 2016, Welcome2TheBronx received a proclamation from then New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for our commitment in covering the LGBTQIA community of The Bronx.

As a result of our detailed coverage and reporting on preservation issues, in 2017, Columbia University Libraries notified Welcome2TheBronx that they would begin to archive our website regularly for “…inclusion in its Avery Library Historic Preservation and Urban Planning web archive to ensure its continuing availability to researchers. The Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library collects books and periodicals in architecture, historic preservation, art history, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, city planning, real estate, and archaeology–and now makes archival copies of important web resources for preservation and access purposes.”

Fast-forward to the present day and Welcome2TheBronx has become an important resource cited in over 500 articles across major mainstream media news sites like The New York Times, The New York Daily News, The New York Post, as well as television appearances by founder and editor, Ed Garcia Conde on channels such as NY1, Pix11 News, and many more.

In 2017, The New York Times included Welcome2TheBronx in an article titled, News Sites With Local Ambitions Hope to Fill Digital Void about local news sites filling in the gaps in the digital void as several local news sites in New York City abruptly shut down.

And in 2022, Welcome2TheBronx’s journalism and reporting was utilized and cited in the 3rd edition of South Bronx Rising: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of an American City by Jill Jonnes.

Welcome2TheBronx has grown significantly since its beginnings with occasional guest writers and contributors and continues to be a leader in reporting the news in The Bronx.
