orn Henry Lee Jackson in The Bronx in 1957, Big Bank Hank of The Sugarhill Gang has passed away due to complications with cancer. Big Bank Hank is considered to be one of the founders of Hip Hop with The Sugarhill Gang’s hit ‘Rapper’s Delight’ which was released 35 years ago this month.

Bronx Solar Energy Company To Invest $7 Million To Create Tech Hub In The Borough

Bronx-based company OnForce Solar, who specializes in — you guessed it, solar energy — is partnering up with Bronx Community College to create a technology hub that will train Bronxites in the ever-expanding green tech industry. The company has the largest operation of its kind in the industry in all of New York City right here in the Bronx, according to the company’s website.

Nursing Program At Bronx Community College Listed #1 In The State

Congratulations to Bronx Community College an its LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Program which just recently made the #1 program of its kind in the entire state of New York according to Practical Nursing.

Also worth mentioning is that Monroe College also made the top ten list and that NO OTHER NYC BOROUGH made it on that list!

Bronx Community College (BCC)’s Run the Bronx race will be held on May 3. This annual event was founded in 1978 by former college president and Tuskegee Airman Dr. Roscoe C. Brown.

Now in its 36th year, the Run has become a signature event for the borough. And there’s so much more to the day than just a high-spirited, friendly competition. Run the Bronx promotes fitness and wellness, a crucial issue in a borough that has the highest rates of asthma, diabetes and obesity in our city. BCC would like to further expand the annual race to encourage healthier habits and lifestyles in our common community and turn around these alarming statistics.

EXPANDING VIEWS: The Art of DANIEL HAUBEN at The Andrew Freedman Home

Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of receiving an invitation to Daniel Hauben’s opening reception at the Andrew Freedman home for his latest exhibition: Expanding Views: The Art of Daniel Hauben.

The exhibition is quite breathtaking as I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing his works up close. The paintings capture the essence of the Bronx so clearly that it is no wonder why Bronx Community College commissioned 22 paintings by Hauben for their new North Hall and Library.

A distinguished African-American educator oversaw the move from scattered buildings around Jerome Avenue to the high and architecturally distinguished place it now occupies; his name was Dr. James A. Colston!
