Bronx BP Diaz Jr’s ‘New Bronx’ Isn’t For All—Unless You Can Afford It

It’s been a while since we’ve heard Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr utter the words ‘New Bronx’, something we’ve been vocally against along with legions of Bronxites.
But he doesn’t have to, the damage is done and it’s already embedded in the psyche of people from billionaire developers of the oligarchy to the working poor who make our beautiful Bronx run.

The Village Voice published an article titled, ‘Brooklynizing The Bronx: Will The Boogie Down’s Boom Leave Thousands of Workers in The Dust?’ which examines, among many things, Ruben Diaz Jr’s ties to real estate interests and his lack of advocacy for the auto workers of Jerome Avenue who are facing displacement and loss of thousands of jobs as the area faces rezoning.

Hillary Comes to The Bronx…To Show She Can Ride The Subway

Ok, so last week for April Fool’s we joked how Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton were coming to The Bronx after Bernie Sanders huge rally last at St Mary’s Park.

Turns out we were half right.

Former SoBro Exec & Founder Suggests Moving Madison Square Garden to The Bronx

In a letter to the editors of Crain’s, Michael J Gill, one of the founders of the South Bronx Overall Economic Corporation and former chairman of the little loved SoBro, is proposing that the Yankees owner Hank Steinbrenner, along with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr, consider moving the legendary Madison Square Garden to The Bronx.

‘Clueless’ Bronx Walk of Famer, Stacey Dash, Calls for Abolishing Black History Month

Last year Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr gleefully had actress and Fox News Commentator, Stacey Dash, inducted into The Bronx Walk of Fame despite her controversial stances on major issues.

The actress, who ironically is best known for her role in the hit movie, ‘Clueless’, is now calling for the abolishing of Black History Month.

Boro Prez Ruben Diaz Jr Denies Gentrification in The Bronx; Here’s Our List Proving Him Wrong

This morning on the Brian Lehrer show, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr said that he thinks gentrification is wrong for our neighborhoods but when a caller by the name of Collin questioned him on what’s happening in our borough, Diaz became dismissive and rude. Here’s our list showing gentrification is real in The Bronx.

Bronx Boro Prez Ruben Diaz Jr Needs A Lesson On What Gentrification Means

Bronx BP Disses Anarchists and Gives a New View on Gentrification – That was the headline that caught my eye.

I’m really no longer shocked that our borough president simply does not understand the word gentrification and what it means. It’s not the first time he’s tried to redefine the word.

According to the above article, CityLimits writes on how our BP doesn’t see gentrification for what it is:

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. doesn’t see it that way.

For him, new development—even of subsidized housing open only to people with relatively high incomes—is about retaining an incumbent population of professionals in the Bronx who now live in apartments that are cheaper than they need because they lack other options in the borough.

And it’s also about slapping “anarchists” around. At least that’s how Diaz pitched it to a room of housing advocates and developers at the New York Housing Conference’s annual symposium on Wednesday.

Senator Ted Cruz, Republican From Texas Bashes Bronx Yet Our Borough Is Safer Than 3 Largest Cities In Texas

Tea Party Republic Senator Ted Cruz from Texas, in an attempt to mock Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, bashed The Bronx as a dangerous place when he said, according to Business Insider, “Now, I understand that Manhattan is very concerned with their security with the Bronx, but it’s a little bit different on 2,000 miles of the Rio Grande.” Senator Cruz said these remarks during a meeting of the conservative Americans For Prosperity’s Defending The American Dream Summit in Dallas, Texas. Guess he doesn’t know his own state and that The Bronx is safer than its 3 largest cities.

Bronx BP Ruben Diaz Jr Insults Mott Haven/Port Morris; Says There’s Nothing There, It’s Morbid

“Right now, that area is dark, it’s dormant, it’s just a very morbid place,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr of the thriving Port Morris/Mott Haven area where FreshDirect wants to set-up shop during an interview on BronxTalk last night. He went on to say that FreshDirect would liven up an otherwise empty area.

Are we talking about the same area? The same area that was declared by NYC & Company — New York City’s official marketing and tourism agency — as one of the ‘Neighborhood x Neighborhood’ as a destination for tourists to explore outside of Manhattan?

Local residents and business owners are not only disappointed but also upset with Diaz Jr’s comments.
