Port Morris Distillery Severs Partnership With FreshDirect After Community Protests

Last Thursday an event was held at Port Morris Distillery with The Bronx Brewery, Ruben Diaz Jr, FreshDirect, Marlene Cintron, Executive Director of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation to celebrate the newly formed business partnership between PMD and FreshDirect.

Our borough president began tweeting and even sent out a press release as a victory of sorts in the many attempts his administration has attempted to divide our communities on the issue of FreshDirect coming to The Bronx.

Bronx Photo League Documents The People of Jerome Avenue; Exhibition Opens October 3rd

From a 3rd generation Jewish shopkeeper, to a Salvadoran auto worker, to an African hairdresser and a Latina nail salon worker, these are the people that the Bronx Documentary Center’s Bronx Photo League have been documenting for many months now for their upcoming exhibition, ‘Jerome Avenue Workers Project’.

Last year, New York City Department of City Planning announced that they were studying the “Cromwell-Jerome” area of The Bronx—an area that doesn’t exist which spurred fears of rebranding and gentrification—for possible rezoning due to rise in population and projected increases in population over the next several decades.

CBKPerk Off To A Successful Launch This Morning!

CBKPerk, a collaboration between two small Bronx businesses—Morris Perk and Charlie’s Kitchen & Bar—was off to an excellent start this morning. Folks were already waiting by 6:15 just 15 minutes before the 6:30AM opening of the new coffee and breakfast service at Charlie’s. The energy was buzzing and folks from all over The Bronx came out to support.

With CBKPerk, Charlie’s now offers service from early in the morning along with their recently launched lunch service to cap it all of with their signature dinner menu at the popular watering hole.

East Meets West: Introducing CBK Perk!

Charlie’s Bar and Kitchen started offering lunch this week due to popular demand and now, starting in June, Morris Perk will be popping up at Charlies during weekdays for breakfast in what the two businesses are calling CBK Perk!
CBK Perk will be providing a continental breakfast in the beginning along Morris Perk’s signature coffee blend, espresso drinks, juice of the day, and organic teas from Loose Leaf Tea Company.

Despite Weather, Hundreds of Bronxites Gather to Unite Against (Cromwell) Jerome Avenue Study Area

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Planning have a rough road ahead with Bronx residents.

Last night, hundreds of residents from within the Jerome Avenue Study Area (estimates had the crowd at at least 400 attending despite the weather), gathered to join in solidarity against a rezoning that the community feels is not about them or with them. Residents and community groups are so concerned yet so organized they have even formed a group and an umbrella alliance of all stakeholders calling themselves ‘Bronx Coalition for a Community Vision’.

Holland Textiles Opens First US Store in The Bronx, Bringing a Bit of Africa With Them

Last summer, while walking along 3rd Avenue in The Hub, I spotted a bright, new store with gorgeous, African print fabrics. Holland Textiles advertise themselves as the “number one African Fabric retail outlet in the world…” and they have planted their first roots in America in The Bronx neighborhood of Melrose.
